Defying convention

As an academy, we have decided not to adopt the FA 3v3 matchday model for the upcoming season.

Our U7 players will instead move into an U8 format, continuing within a structure aligned with the professional game.

We recognise the value of 3v3 football—particularly for increased touches and decision-making—and it will remain an important part of our training syllabus, alongside festivals and tournaments.

However, we believe coaching plays a crucial role in player development. While 3v3 can encourage facilitation, our philosophy is that coaches should actively guide, challenge, and develop players within a structured environment.

We also place strong importance on the role of goalkeepers from an early age. Experiencing real match scenarios, including shooting against and playing with live goalkeepers, is a key part of the game that young players value and learn from.

Our aim is to provide a balanced development programme—one that combines the benefits of small-sided formats with the realism and learning opportunities of match play.

We’re excited to continue supporting our players’ development throughout the 2026/27 season.
