Crystal Palace (2007–2012):
Scannell came through the Crystal Palace academy and made his first-team debut in December 2007. In his home debut against Sheffield Wednesday, he scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner, marking the beginning of a memorable career. His consistent performances earned him the Championship Apprentice of the Year award in 2009.
Huddersfield Town (2012–2018):
Scannell was part of the squad that earned promotion to the Premier League through the Championship play-offs in the 2016–17 season, contributing to the club’s historic success.
Loan to Burton Albion (2017–2018):
Scannell was loaned to Burton Albion in 2017, though his loan was cut short by injury in January 2018.
Bradford City (2018–2019):
Scannell signed with Bradford City in 2018, continuing to bring his creative presence to their attacking setup during his time at the club.
Blackpool (2019–2020):
Scannell’s leadership and adaptability was an asset to the squad until his release in 2020.
Grimsby Town (2020-2023)
Scannell contributed to their promotion via the National League play-offs in 2022. Despite injuries limiting his time on the pitch, his experience and leadership were invaluable to the team.
Hornchurch (2023–Present):
In 2023, Scannell signed with Hornchurch FC, playing a significant role in their promotion to the National League South as Isthmian League Premier Division champions.
International Career:
Scannell has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth levels, including U17, U18, U19, U21, and B teams. In 2007, he was honored with the Republic of Ireland Young Player of the Year award.
