EMC 2-3 Soccer Elite

Our Scholars squad 1 faced an outstanding Soccer Elite side on Wednesday 19th January in our first home game of the year.

Our unbeaten home league record finally came to an end with a spirited performance, although lacking quality in the final 3rd. After a quick start, Kian Simmons pounced to prod home a rebound from a spilled effort from Alex Joy, putting us 1-0 up. Our lead lasted until the 40th minute, when two defensive errors in two minutes saw us behind at the break. Soccer Elite added a third mid way through the second half, meaning Josh Dungates penalty in the final stages was no more than a consolation for us.

Academy manager Henry Muggeridge had this to say on the performance: 'We played Soccer Elite earlier in the season and lost 3-1 but didn't play anywhere near as well as we did today. The boys dominated possession and the game in general for the first 35 minutes, and have missed 4 or 5 very good chances to go 2-0 up- if that happens I think we win the game. Unfortunately it didn't and we must learn lessons and improve our final third play to put the game to bed when we are on top. That said we are extremely proud of the progression in performance levels throughout this squad.'
