Tournament at WBA

20th May 2023

On a lovely Spring morning, our U9s, U10s, U11s, U12s and U13s made the long trip 5 miles north west of Birmingham to play in a tournament at the Hawthorns.

The morning started off in superb style as our U9 side won the whole tournament conceding only 3 goals whilst scoring double figures! The highlight of the morning for these boys has to be the penalty shootout in the final, whitewashing the opponent with shootout, hero C. Box saving the ultimate decider!

The U10’s also started in fine fashion topping the group conceding 1 goal, scoring 8 and topping the group. However it wasn’t to be for the lads as they bowed out to eventual winners Walsall and found themselves in a 3rd place play off match. The lads gave their complete all and left it all on the pitch but sadly Newport beat us to 3rd place- however, a valiant effort from the boys.

The afternoon came by and the next group of lads where ready for action in the May heat.

The U11s kicked us off following suit of the morning round making it out the group comfortably to reach the semi final. Superb performances saw the boys get a 1-0 win and cement themselves a place in the final. The final came around but it seemed the boys could do everything bar score. Saves, woodwork hits, you name it… The eventual result was a kick in the teeth as Walsall beat the lads to win the silverware, however runners up is nothing to be upset about!

Meanwhile the U12s received a mix bag of results seeing them just miss out on the semi's. Some fantastic team performances and goals just didn’t seem to be enough for the boys. However, in the play off games, the boys found their form again netting 5 past their opponents to finish on a positive.

The U13s finished us off at the Hawthorns in fairly similar circumstances to the U12s. Narrowly missing out on the semi's by a point, the boys knew they had to redeem themselves and redeem themselves they did, picking up a 2-0 win in the play offs.

Overall a superb effort from everyone involved- parents and players and a great day for the centre as the boys returned home with some silverware!
